Unpopular Opinion: Bloodborne is my least favorite souls game

I just finished bloodborne and the DLC and I know this is a very hot take but it’s been the least favorite of the souls games I played so far (I still need to play Demon Souls, Sekiro and DS3) I really wanted to like it so bad and it was a fun game but I just felt disappointed after hearing what a masterpiece it was compared to other souls games. Before anyone asks why some reasons I didn’t enjoy the game as much as others

First off blood vial farming, it’s very frustrating in the first half of the game when you’re learning the bosses, areas and mechanics to have to stop fighting to go farm for a bit after dying which makes deaths feel very tilting and tedious

Also I know this is subjective but for me more than half of the bosses are not fun or enjoyable in my opinion. I don’t want to fight another dog variant or a boss that is 50 times my size with a shitty camera lock on system at 30fps, it feels like sometimes its hard to even see his attacks while being able to properly attack too. I do think some bosses are absolutely peak in this game though and hard carry the boss roster for me. The bosses that I liked I really loved and feel like they compliment Bloodbornes combat system very well such as Father G, Blood Starved Beast, Logarious, Mergo’s Wet Nurse, Gehrman, Ludwig, Maria and Orphan of Kos

I think Chalice dungeons are a grind and not fun to explore/do but they also hold the best loot in the game so gatekeeping partial character progression through a not fun system is not enjoyable.

Not nearly as much build variety as other From Software games with there being hardly any weapons and spells and spells only being 1 stat in this game (arcane) instead of 2. I don’t like how they’re treated as an item and uses quicksilver bullets (pretty quickly too) another consumable you need to manage that is also used to parry so magic really feels like an after thought in this game.

The world feels a little too linear for my liking. I unironically enjoyed DS2 exploration a lot more than bloodborne because it felt like you had a lot more freedom to go wherever you wanted and just pick a path and the amount of NPCs you would find while exploring that made the world feel alive that bloodborne lacked unless you really went out of your way because it feels like a lot of npcs are hidden away in hard to reach areas.

I also think enemy placement is almost at DS2 levels at some points in the game (Unseen village post Vox which btw is a not fun boss imo) and can feel worst at times because of how aggressive the enemies are that you will get ganked around corners if it’s your unfamiliar with the area.

In case you guys are curious on how I rank the soul games that I’ve played so far it would go

Bloodborne < Dark Souls 1 < Dark Souls 2 < Elden Ring

Demon Souls is next on my From Software journey
