Hi all quick question. I recently had blood work done and am just trying to figure something out. At the end of my appointment I was given the option of paying upfront or using my medical aid. I asked for the total cost which was R2050, so I decided to use medical aid (Discovery). Now it’s about 2 weeks later and I receive an email from the lab company saying that I have an outstanding amount to settle. I was curious what medical aid wouldn’t have covered so I went through my claims to see that the company billed medical aid R5043. I was shocked by this amount as that wasn’t what I had been told, so I phone the lab company querying this and their answer is that medical aid has their own rates which they charge for blood work. First I’ve ever heard of such, so my question is does medical aid charge inflated rates for certain things or is the lab that I used taking me for a fool?
