So, after reading some of the other posts here, I had the idea to turn Sephek into a true murder mystery, instead of the one-off the story gives me. So far, how it's played out is after the foaming mugs quest, my PCs return to Bryn Shander and discover a body left in the snow with an icicle in the heart. They were then brought on by the town speaker and sheriff to help them catch the killer. So in the last session, I had them investigate the victim's house. They found a ledger establishing that Torg's caravan company was taking bribes. Someone named S. Kaltro was handling it (they didn't pay much attention to that detail, however). They found a note and some other stuff confirming that as well. They went back to the speaker, where they learned about the lottery (none of the PCs are from there, so it was a shock!) and connected that to the bribes. I made a system for how the lottery itself gets handled, and that led to them investigating the speaker's assistant (an NPC I made), who was bribed by "someone" to reveal the names of the lottery. So now they know T.C.C is involved heavily, the speaker told them that she heard they might be headed to Lonelywood (revisin's sister is the one inside Sephek, btw). Backstory done, now where I need help is... I'm not sure how to continue the problem-solving once they reach the merchants. I would rather not have them figure out everything this session and lead them on a red herring, but still dribble in some clues they can put together.
