i’ve been getting back into playing DDR recently. My only experience up until about two weeks ago was playing at a cab we had on my college campus that died about halfway through college. I never really played up until then, but got back into playing at our local arcade after having never really played DDR in an actual arcade setting. I mainly play by ear and follow internal rhythm but have difficulty sometimes hearing songs. My arcade has three cabs directly adjacent to each other, and when you’re playing, directly behind you are 2 II DX machines, all usually with people on them. I’ve been having trouble with hearing the song among all this noise (I’ve got some auditory processing issues generally so this is probably downstream of that), and notice I do significantly worse during parts of charts that follow quieter mixed vocals or percussion (https://youtu.be/0P6UfEV6C2Q?si=rWT_HmAnEt3GkIYJ, the hi hat (idk drums) keeping time at ~ 1:25 is really hard to pick out, a lot of ZETA is hard to hear, etc). Conversely, on songs that are mixed differently or ones that follow prominent vocals (Most of my favorite charts are Vocaloid ones or bag lol), I perform a lot better, and did quite well when I went when the arcade opened and it was relatively quiet.
Anyone have any tips for “locking in” better at the arcade?
