I am currently stuck between Wayne State SOM and Virginia Commonwealth SOM. I was given a scholarship from Wayne State SOM which would make my total COA around $270k vs VCU SOM where my COA is $372k. I was admitted off the waitlist for VCU SOM so I am not sure about if they would even give me a scholarship (not impossible though, I have heard). Coming from CA, I think adjusting to Richmond, VA would be a lot easier and frankly make me happier than cold cold Detroit, MI, but is it worth $100k extra in private loans (I hate the BBB)? I am also interested in Dermatology (could definitely change with more exposure) but I believe both programs have similar pull (correct me if I'm wrong)? Any insight from current physicians, residents, med students, etc. would be helpful.
