In Rogue One, everyone talks about Vader's rage at the end in the corridor. But for me, the scene between Vader and Krennic is far more powerful.
Yes, it's just a shot/reverse shot. No lightsaber. No fight. And yet, I think it's one of the moments where Vader's aura reaches its peak.
Vader is terrifying not because of what he does, but because of what he doesn't need to do. His mere presence in the room is enough. Gareth Edwards turned an exposition scene into a pure exercise in mise-en-scène. The mist, the backlighting, Vader's blocking, the color palette… everything points to the same idea: reminding us who the real DIRECTOR really is.
I had so much to say about this scene that I made a video about it on my YouTube channel, Les Voiles de l'Infini. A deep dive into what is, for me, pure cinema.
Did this scene hit you as hard as it hit me?
