I believe I have found a temporary fix for the Starfield freezing issue on PS5.

I didn't start having freezing issues till I hit the 10 hour mark in the game. The game then started freezing every 15 to 30 minutes whether I was using the scanner or not. No crash report option would appear, but I could still access the PS5 interface to close and restart the game. My freezes were occuring every time I was on the surface of a planet. Sounds like a lot of you have been having the same problem. So here's what I did after messing with everything I could think of:

For starters I am on the base PS5. I hope this works for the PS5 Pro guys as well since your settings might be a little different from mine.

Make sure before you do anything below to have Prioritize Performance set in your display settings in Starfield. It'll grey out once you make some of the changes below. Does it have to be set on Performance? Not sure, but just sharing my set up.

  1. On my TV I use the Game Mode picture setting. I have FreeSync activated

  2. In the PS5 screen and video settings I have VRR, 120 HZ Output, ALLM all set to Automatic.

  3. In the Display settings for Starfield I have the Frame Target Rate set to "Uncapped". The Uncapped option only appeared for me when I had 120 HZ Output set to Automatic in the screen and video settings. Next turn VSync on. Prioritize Performance will be greyed out as I mentioned above and you won't be able to change it for the time being. Slide Film Grain Intensity to zero. Turn Motion Blur off, and turn Depth of Field off.

Once I had all these settings in place, my freezes have completely stopped. I experimented with a combination of different settings and this is the one that worked for me. I've been playing several hours now and not one freeze has occurred.

It's sad that we have to do this, and hopefully Bethesda patches the issue.

Sorry for the long winded post guys. Hope this helps you all out like it did for me. Report your findings below. Feel free to try different variations of my settings and see what works for you.

Hopefully once Bethesda fixes this we can go back to using whatever settings we choose again.
