Hello everyone. Learned a lot from lurking here over the years. I’m building an ADU and had a question about the use of a sewage ejector pump to connect with the main house sewer line.
The ADU sits a few feet in elevation below the main house. While I was really hoping to have the fall I needed to gravity feed the sewer all the way to the street, I just don’t have it. So sewage ejector pump it is. I will be replacing the main house sewer as well. It’s old orangeburg filled with roots and a belly in it.
My question is where best to place it.
The easiest option is to put the pump right outside (#1 on my diagram) the ADU. Pump it up to my house sewer line where it can gravity feed to the street.
Would it be better to lower my sewer line alongside the main house and then put a pump where I’ve marked #2. Then pump it up a short distance where gravity can take over to the street?
Is one of these options better than the other?
My plumber friend says he hates these pumps. Are they really that bad? Any recommendations on a decent reliable brand?
The total distance from ADU to the street is about 150’.
Thanks so much for any advice.
