M5 Pro chip, Mac Book Pro
About a week ago I got myself the M5 pro chip Macbook Pro as a birthday present for myself to become my personal daily driver.
I have a pretty beefy PC for work but wanted a portable daily driver i could use for work and personal projects.
I work as a design creative in game development doing systems design, scripting, coding, and a whole host of other type of creative work that involve a machine that needs to run 3d modeling software, game engines, and yes even local LLM sometimes.
I went with the base config of 24 Gigs of RAM and the 1 terabyte of SSD memory.
This model and config for my daily use so far has been more then enough!
now I run a small local LLM on it for coding assistance (qwen2.5-coder.7b), running VS code, spotify, safari, and a few other applications and it eats it up with memory to spare .
Im just here to say this is a great machine, and if your on the fence about the 24 gigs of RAM on the base pro config...it seems to work great for me, not saying its what you will need for your daily driver...but considering my needs it works...just wanted to share my experiance...as a first time Mac owner thats not a ipad.
