Getting refunds from eBay Counterfeiters

Getting refunds from eBay Counterfeiters

Doing this only for the benefit inexperienced silver buyers using eBay

Otherwise please disregard this rehash.

*Buy only from certified businesses on eBay and online dealers e.g Hero Bullion Monument etc*

And Local Coin Shops

(LCS term used here on Reddit platforms by the big Bubbas)

Not from individual sellers, even with

high ratings. Almost nicked me too.

Be consistent when calling customer service. Keep calling them. Took 3x contacting them by phone until I got my 3rd silver refund. We're talking $300.00

*****************************************

*Don't allow the return window to expire if counterfeit seller sent you an altered USPS label, sending your return item to parts unknown. They do this all the time*

*****************************************

This happened to me twice, until I did a deep dive on the USPS return label and scanned it, and it showed a different tracking number than the one on sellers USPS return label. eBay is well aware of this scam.

You will know on eBay after you unknowingly shipped it back, yet item

still shows "Print Label", and not in the "Shipped" In Transit queue

*Always match your USPS tracking receipt with the shippers label, confirm with USPS clerk before completing transaction.

If it doesn't match, don't ship!!

Report seller to eBay, and always get an eBay generated return shipping label, whenever possible.*

Hope this helps

Read this, it happened to me twice now.

Counterfeiters are getting smart, avoiding paying you a refund on eBay. Experience here to share with all of you. Confirmed with eBay customer service support

*Make certain the USPS shipping label tracking number (the one the seller gives you for your Return, matches the USPS tracking receipt you get at the Post Office.*

By providing you a decoy label with an altered scan bar code, your return will go somewhere else, and not back to the shipper. Your return status will remain as "Print Label", and not "Shipped" nor In-Transit or Delivered.

Your Return item remains in the queue, not shipped back, despite sending it back.

This allows the return window to expire, and the seller keeps your money.

Its happening on eBay, all the time.

*Always check your USPS tracking receipt for matching the shipping label tracking number, with the postal clerk, BEFORE they take it from you and toss in the bin.*

Neodymium magnet test

Silver and both copper exhibit diamagnetic properties. Using strong neodymium magnets is another tool to distinguish silver and copper from steel and non ferrous alloys used in counterfeits.

Not a perfect sleuthing tool, just a good test to rule out non ferrous and ferrous fake silver. Slide test reveal slight hangups for clads with copper, and delayed slide on .999 silver

Clads hang up slightly on slide tests due to copper content. Penny has little so drops a lot faster

Tested in order:

2025 copper-plated aluminum Lincoln

2018 Jefferson nickle*

2024 Roosevelt dime

1967 Washington Quarter

1776-2026 Liberty Half Dollar

(*No copper in the nickle, doesn’t hang up.) Non ferrous alloy category.

OPM 1 oz silver bar .999 Ag

Counterfeit Sunshine Mint 1 oz bar

Silver plated steel. Very nice counterfeit.

Hope this helps, 🙏 R / Dr H

Look for weight

American Eagles weigh 31.1g

See photos

Check diameter: 40.6mm

If uncertain, it won't fit an American buffalo round disk. 39mm

AEs will get stuck and crack

Always use a magnet to check for plated steel. See fake Scottsdale and Sunshinw one oz bars

Silver half walking liberties. Chinese fakes

Not steel, non magnetic

When buyjng multiples, you will get 1916 1917 1918s, and they will show zero thickness change on the rims, along with duplicate wear patterns on obverse and reverse side for the same years

There will be no wear on the reed edges, despite notable wear in obverse reverse sides

These are very good fakes.

Ok. Thanks for the nice feedback on my previous post. Lots to learn yet.

I bought $1500 face value Pre-65 silver 90% Washington quarters from MoneyMetals Exchange a couple of months ago.

My first order contained large amounts of heavy culls. This is their sneaky way of making sure you don't get the silver you pay for. My second and third orders of $500 face value had similar problems

Never buy silver from MoneyMetals Exchange. I complained about my shortages, clads and non us coins they

sent me.

Their excuse , according to Director Seigner, is, "We don't have time to select

or sort coins."

Problem with that lame excuse, is that out of 6000 coins, they included 7 clads/copper Washingtons, shorted me 3 silver Washington's, included 3 Canadians, and tons of heavy culls

And not one collectible coin in the entire lot. So much for not having time to make sure their customers get the silver they actually paid for? Really?

Yet, despite having high speed sorting equipment, they don't have time

for checking for shortages, clads, or Canadians or heavy culls (weight loss you paid for)

So after a long inventory sorting and weighing coins, I found that their way to really short your total silver, was packing the bags (#2000 ea per $500 face value), with lots of heavy culls.

It adds up folks. Out of 100 normal circulation coins and 100 heavy culls, the weight disparity was about 24 grams per 100 coins.

1000 avg circ coins vs 1000 cull coins

While that may not seem like a lot, there are 2000 coins per bag.

1000 culls = 240 g short per bag.

Culls calculation

24 g light per 100 x 10 = 240g/ 1000

240g x 0.9g Ag per coin = 216g Ag

216g Ag ÷ 31.103476g/ Troy oz=

6.94 Troy oz Ag lost, per bag of $500

Minimum loss is likely 4-7 Troy oz per $500 face value Washington quarters.

While they replaced the missing quarters and culls, as for the missing silver I paid for, Seigler told me to pretty much pack sand.

Bottom line stuff here, hesds up:

As a retired, 100% handicapped career military veteran, I can tell you, that if they would cheat me, they will cheat you.

Use Monument Metals.

They won't cheat you.

A bit slow to ship, but you get what you pay for. Also, their buyback fees are better.

Stick to .999 pure Ag A.E's and 10 oz bars to avoid IRS form 1099s.

When selling, keep it light and simple.

Be vigilant, be safe, good luck Stackers!

Hi Silver Stackers. I am new to this platform, but want to share some

very important guidance when dealing with silver counterfeiters on eBay.

I bought four eBay Scottsdale 1 oz silver bar fakes, and one Sunshine silver 1 oz bar.

All were extremely well made silver plated steel. Paid 67.00 ea, tested and returned for refund.

Also have bought fake Walking Liberties on eBay, AEs and bars. So take note.

Have encountered other counterfeiters there as well, and had serious problems with refunds, but so far batting a 1000

Make sure to complain to seller, as eBay reviews their responses and lack thereof.

This goes a long way in your favor for refunds.

*READ CAREFULLY OVER COFFEE*

Be careful with these counterfeiters on eBay. Most likely Chinese. They have two clever ways to punk you out of your money:

They make pretty good fakes that are non magnetic, and they use special alloys blended with copper, to defeat magnet test, and act diamagnetic like silver does.

US Walking Liberties, US MINT AEs, bars and rounds

NOTE ON RETURNS:

Sellers will likely accept returns, but send you a cleverly altered, decoy USPS return "no cost" shipping label, which will scan as a different tracking number, not like the one on your printed shipping label.

Unbeknownst to you and postal clerk.

You will know you've been punked when eBay only shows "PRINT LABEL" and not "IN TRANSIT", despite having shipped the return item back seller.

This allows the return window to lapse/expire, and allows the seller to keep your money.

Old saying goes: "Trust, but verify."

****Make certain, with the postal clerk before leaving the USPS office, the following:

  1. Validate with USPS postal clerk that your scanned tracking number matches your printed label tracking number.

  2. ****If it doesn't, DON'T SHIP.

Report seller to eBay.****

  1. Use automated Help system, ask it for live assistance for any issue like this.

Minimum tests:

Weight scale AEs exactly 31.1g

Neodymium magnet slide test.

Measure diameter of AEs

Check for notch on reeded edges.

PING TEST

For old silver halves and dollars, look for multiple old dates with only obverse and reverse wear, but no wear on edges or reeds, or thinning of the coins.

They will show exactly the same wear patterns for each year sent to you, if buying multiple coins from these counterfeiters...

Attached photos:

Magnet test of a Scottsdale 1 oz bar

Magnets test of a Sunshine 1 oz bar

Silver plated steel. Both proof finish, spotless.

AE fake below standard 40.6 mm

AE fake below weight standard 31.1g

Fake Walking Liberty halves with no

edge reed or thickness wear, 1916 1917 1918s. All matching wear, same years

Gorgeous fakes nonetheless.
