Wanted to drop a proper breakdown of one of our longest-running, most-requested strains: Blue Dream Feminized. We get questions about this cut every single week, so figured it was time to lay it all out from the people who actually bred and stabilized the line.
The genetics:
Blue Dream is Blueberry x Haze #1. We crossed two heavyweights to get here:
• Blueberry, an indica-leaning classic with Afghani, Purple Thai, and Thai sativa in the lineage. Brings the creamy vanilla, the deep berry, and that signature relaxed body without the couch lock.
• Haze #1, a Californian sativa that's been a backbone of West Coast genetics for decades. Spicy, citrus, earthy, with the cerebral lift that put Haze on the map.
The result is a sativa-dominant fem seed that holds onto the best traits of both parents. We've been refining this line for years, and the current fem release is the most stable, uniform expression we've put out.
What you're growing
• THC: 17 to 24 percent depending on phenotype and finish
• Flower time: 8 to 10 weeks indoors
• Yield indoor: 14 to 24 oz/m² under decent light
• Yield outdoor: 14 to 21 oz per plant in a stable Mediterranean climate
• Outdoor harvest: mid-October from an April sow
• Structure: tall, vigorous, responds beautifully to ScrOG and topping
The buds throw deep blue and purple hues when finished right, with frosty trichome coverage. Terpene profile leans pinene forward (fruity pine, tropical sweetness), with caryophyllene bringing the spice and myrcene rounding out the herbal notes.
Grow tips from our team
A few things we've learned dialing this strain in over the years:
Veg
• 72 to 78°F, 30 to 50 percent RH
• Start LST or topping in week 2 or 3 of veg, this strain stretches
• ScrOG is our preferred method, branches weave through mesh easily and the canopy fills out evenly
Flower
• Bump RH to 55 to 60 percent, temps 68 to 80°F, with 7 to 9°F night drop
• Drop RH to 40 percent mid-flower, 30 percent near harvest to push that color and protect against bud rot
• Standard NPK schedule, she's not a heavy feeder but rewards consistent nutrition
Climate notes:
Outdoor growers in Mediterranean conditions get the best results, but we've seen great runs in warmer continental climates too. If you're outdoor in cooler regions, get her under a hoop house or move indoor.
Effects (for the medical and recreational growers)
This is one of those balanced strains that works for almost everyone. Sativa-forward cerebral lift, mood elevation, focus, then a smooth body relaxation that doesn't pin you to the couch. Beginner-tolerable, veteran-satisfying.
It's why Blue Dream took 2nd at the 2014 Seattle Cannabis Cup for Best Medical Sativa, and why dispensaries can't keep it on shelves 20+ years after it dropped.
