Rather than spending coins for particular league TOTS players could I just slap an Honourable Mention cosmetic on a Serie A defender and use them?

I did the first evo to 88 on my WTSS R9. I unlocked the second Evo last night and, thinking that it was to start another Journey Evo with a second WTSS card, I selected the midfielder Evo and not the attacker.

Has anyone else made this mistake or was I the low IQ FIFA player example this time?
