Hey everyone,
I’m about to join a low-magic (no full casters) survival-style 5.5 campaign, and I wanted to get some input on a strategy I’m considering.
World context:
The setting is harsh, barren, and pretty unforgiving. There’s only one surviving city, and even there, safety isn’t guaranteed. Finding a secure place to sleep is difficult, and it takes three regular rests to count as a long rest. Resources are tight, and my Paladin, who is living in the slums of the city, is going to be constantly short on gold, food, and stability.
The idea:
While looking through my spell list, I noticed Purify Food and Drink. Since it’s a ritual, I can cast it without spending spell slots as long as it’s prepared. It removes poison and rot from nonmagical food and drink in a 5-foot radius.
So my thought was:
Would it be viable to buy (or steal) rotten/contaminated food for very cheap, purify it, and then eat it, or even resell it?
- Does this interpretation of the spell make sense RAW?
- Are there any obvious limitations or consequences I’m overlooking?
- Any other creative survival strategies you’d recommend for this kind of campaign?
Curious to hear your thoughts or similar ideas!
