I am a 29yo F & unhappy in my industry.
Ive been working in dental as front desk for 5 years. I hate sitting at a desk for hours, talking to people all day, and dealing with insurance. I started this job during Covid, when I was laid off in the moto industry. I worked in parts/ service admin but no mechanical background (tho I'm interested in it).
I've always been a "fixer" and have been described as a problem solver. I love knowing how things work and breaking things down. It’s not just mechanical or technical things either, I also like breaking down personal situations to find the best solution for everyone. I enjoy being helpful but hate the customer service dynamic. I find working with insurance all day and hearing people say they can’t afford dental work they need to be soul sucking. I really don’t want to stay in this industry, but I don't have the money or time to stop working FT and go to school. The only other jobs that will pay me a living wage are other admin jobs for corporations outside of healthcare, which I’m not interested in. Are there any industries I could break into that I might actually enjoy without needing to go to school?
