Porsha’s Group vs Shamea’s Group S17E6

Just watched season 17 episode 6 and I’m kind of glad they did one of those cast splits during a trip.

Group 1 was: Shamea, Drew, Cynthia, Kelli, and Pinky

Group 2 was: Porsha, Phaedra, Angela, K. Michelle

It’s never been more clear where all the bad/boring energy is. Group 2 was so much more fun to watch and they were all getting along. Group 1 had an attitude the entire time and they were overall a drag.

Cynthia and Drew were fine and honestly Drew is kind of growing on me. The Kelli, Shamea, Pinky trio on the other hand… they’re awful. They’re constantly complaining, talking shit, or acting like they’re above it all.

Kelli and Pinky’s talk about being business women was also delusional. They act like they’re the only housewives with kids and a business, but I think literally everyone else on the cast is in the same position. I think they’re really bonding over their shared debt and legal troubles.

I always found it interesting to look at which housewives mutually follow each other on instagram and which ones don't. It often tells a story and gives you somewhat of an idea of which housewives are at least cordial.

I like developing apps so I made a visualization/analysis tool to look at this. Some results were surprising. Some not so much.

I figured I would share some relevant highlights, but feel free to check out the project yourself. I recommend using a laptop or desktop, but it works on mobile if you're willing to scroll a bit. Check It Out Here

I only analyzed people who have been full time cast members on RHOA. There are 23 Housewives of Atlanta total. In the visualization I used, the more mutual connections they have, the bigger their portrait appears.

Most Mutual Follows

Cynthia has the most mutual follows at a whopping 21. Literally every full time housewife of Atlanta follows Cynthia. The only one she doesn't follow back is DeShawn Snow. I would guess that this isn't personal. On the show Cynthia is often the peacemaker and she gets along with pretty much everyone. It's no surprise that her Instagram follows tell the same story.

Second place is a tie between Phaedra and Shamea. They both have 17 mutual follows. This one surprised me, cause these two seem to have issues with quite a few housewives.

Most Beef

For my app, beef had a very specific definition. If two housewives appeared on the same season together, but they do not follow each other on Instagram, then it is considered a beef and a link is drawn between them.

I realize that this definition is far from perfect, but it works well enough to tell an interesting story from the data. Often when two housewives who starred in the same season don't follow each other, it suggests ice, grudges, lasting bad blood, or general incompatibility.

To me the most interesting links here are between Nene and Kandi as well as Nene and Sheree. Nene and Kandi have had some unspoken ice/beef dating all the way back to season 2. They still don't follow each other to this day. I don't think Nene and Sheree's friendship ever recovered after their fight in season 4. I think that that fight was deeper than people realize and there's still bad blood between them all these years later.

As a raw number, Porsha has the most beefs, with 7 total. Many of these are from season 17, so I'm guessing they're fresh.

Highest Beef Percentage

Beef percentage is the number of beefs a housewife has divided by how many housewives they have appeared with total. A high beef percentage means that the housewife follows few of the people that they co-starred with.

The two housewives with the highest beef percentage are Kim Fields and Eva Marcille. Both have a 66.7% beef percentage with 6 beefs out of 9 co-stars.

Brit Eady holds second place with a 62.5% beef percentage with 5 beefs out of 8 co-stars.

These results were not very surprising to me. Although Kim Fields doesn't necessarily have "beef" with a bunch of people, she did not fit in with the cast well at all. She didn't seem to like being on the show very much, so it makes sense that there's ice between her and many of her co-stars.

Eva Marcille and Brit Eady are self explanatory. They ended their seasons at odds with most of their castmates and generally got into a lot of fights.

The App

This app was made purely for fun as a side project. Feel free to use it and see what interesting things you discover. There's two different views, mutual follower view and beef view.

The graph is pretty interactive. You can click on a housewives portrait to better view who they follow and don't follow. You can filter by selecting only the housewives you want to view. You can also view rankings for various categories.
