I mean, there is a posibility that they actually believe what they say, that they're insane asf and really think they're gods choosen ones... Or, they actually know what they're doing, selectively manipulating people into a cult and taking their money and time...

A long time ago there was this elder that used to tell me it wasn't okay to listen Michael Jackson's music. He told me he was disfellowshiped, and this was after he decided to release the Thriller album. The obscure and satanic theme of the album made him end up in a commite, where he was shunned. Then the album became one of the most succesful in the entire history, because satan was rewarding Michael for leaving Jehovah.

Ik all of this is bullshit but, that's what the elder told me to make me stop listening Michael Jackson.

Well, long time ago before i started to have doubts, i just met this new guy on my congregation. He was somehow, worldly, he came from the D.C (Caracas, i'm venezuelan, pardon my english). I live in a small town, so it's pretty common that jw and people in general are more conservative, but this guy kept being framed as a bad company for endorsing playing violent videogames and watching violent action movies. He loved that kind of entertaiment, and he didn't care about openly talk about that, he used to say that in Caracas nobody cared about those things and how elders where exagerating with their judgement against him. He also used to laugh at members of the congregation to the point of being some kind of bully, having some conflicts even with the circuit overseer at a meeting. Years passes, this guy gets a job with a big company, and we become ministerial servants at the same time. We were happy, as i was making progress in the congregation and he not only got a big job but also made this acomplishment. Like 2 or 3 years passes, this guy havent changed at all but now he can afford a car and a house (by venezuelan standards, and more being a JW, it's a lot). He gets "promoted" to elder.

Now, at this point im not gonna lie, i felt a little envy on him, but that envy came because that dude wasnt the sharpest tool in the shed, he was always doing things that were not a good example for the rest of the congregation. "What i was doing wrong?" I said to myself. So i decided to talk with my inmediate elder, and asked him advice on what i had to do to become an elder too, if there was something i wasn't doing ok, that made me get stuck on my progress. He said he would talk about it with the rest of the elders and then he would tell me about it.

As the time keeps passing, between 2 to 4 weeks after my conversation with that elder, other elders keeps making this typical moments when they start showing interest in you and talking to you that you know it isn't genuine, they just want to tell you something, or make you tell them something. After the small talk, various of these elders went with questions like "How are things are your house? Are you living well?", "Are you ok with your job? You earn enough?", "How much do you earn in your work?", "Is your salary enough for you to live or you have extra money after taking care of your needs?"...

Then after all this time, my inmediate elder asks me to visit him so we could talk at his house. Long story short, i wasn't making enough donations. I was an excellent brother, very useful in the congregation, a great example and a lot of great things he said about me just to end up saying "that isn't enough, you should be also an example on giving even your earnings to Jehovahs organization".

Make your math on why the other guy being like he was ended up being elder so fast, that he even was named the watchtower study conductor and also the service overseer.

This experience was one of the much things that made me slowly open my eyes.

In the congregation i used to assist, there was this elder who used to adress the sisters as objects owned by hers husbands... If "Karen" was Kevin's wife, he wouldn't say "sister Karen" or even "Karen", he would straight go like "Kevin's". Having a little issue translating the exact use of adressing because i'm from a hispanic country, but it was really weird to me even before i left the organization. Of course as you probably guessed, this elder was like 70-80 yr old... Any tale like this from your experience?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
