Hall of Fame after 22 years!

This is my first time playing leaf green since I was a kid. I played sapphire and emerald but never leaf green or fire red! I expected the elite four to be a little bit harder than recent Pokemon games but the difficulty was night and day.

Lorelei was relatively simple for Jolteon to handle but the Jynx was annoying with her lovely kiss and attract moves to slow me down.

Bruno was no match for my Exeggutor who used both of his Onix as a healing breather for giga drain. Sleep power and Dream eater devoured any hopes and dreams his Machamp , Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan had of taking down the overgrown eggplant.

Agatha was where things got tricky.

Initially I was planning on using Sandslash to take down the Gengars. However, my heart sank when I found out they had levitate so my dreams of my favourite gen 1 Pokemon mopping the floor with a difficult opponent from my childhood were dashed. So I switched into Jolteon to bite them into unconsciousness. Unfortunately, Agatha played me into a confuse ray which kept Jolteon hurting itself. Finally, after 3 frustrating turns her first Gengar went down. Golbat went down easily with Sandslash’s rockslide. Arbok was a nuisance with its intimidate lowering the attack on Sandslash. Sandslash did a great amount of damage with dig despite that but then she full restored it and critically hit with iron tail to knock out Sandslash as it reemerged from dig. Exeggutor avenged Sandslash with a sleep powder and dream eater. The Haunter and ace gengar went down without any notable difficulty thanks to dream eater and bite.

Lance was a wall to climb from my childhood I vividly remember who took me multiple tries to beat it because I wasted the ice beam tm on a Pokemon that learned it naturally in Pokemon yellow. So this time I made sure Blastoise would utilize it to its full potential and my own Dragonite would easily clear the Dragonairs. Jolteon handled the Gyarados and Aerodactyl without much issue. Overall, I feel I over prepared for this fight and absolutely demolished my childhood trauma with Lance.

Then at long last came the rival as champion. His Pidgeot, Rhydon and Gyarados went down simply with Jolteon and Exeggutor one shotting them.

The last three were a different story…

Alakazam came out and took on my dragonite blow for blow and the rival kept on using full restores to keep it going. Eventually, Dragonite fell as I refused to sink to my rival’s level of healing mid battle. Jolteon came out and tried to bite him out of existence but again more full restores kept Alakazam in the game (this was 4 full restores at this point). Eventually Jolteon also went down to the psychic barrage. So I decided to fight the way he did by using Exeggutor to giga drain stall him and resist the psychic. But apparently my rival didn’t like that and rage switched into Arcanine. Promptly, I switched to Blastoise to take it down but not before a couple extreme speed critical hits got Blastoise low on health. Venusaur decided to finally rear its ugly head after I rain dance surfed Arcanine into oblivion.

This was when the funniest sequence of events happened. I switched Blastoise out because it was weak and I switched in Magmar. However, the rain dance was still going so my flamethrower didn’t even do half damage to Venusaur. But instead of attacking me, Venusaur used sunny day to clear my rain dance and boosted my fire damage. This lead to Magmar who was 13 levels lower than his ace take down Venusaur. And the effects of sunny day helped finish off Alakazam who came out weak from fighting my other Pokemon.

TLDR; Lorelei and Bruno were easy, Agatha was deceivingly cunning, Lance was overwhelmed by obsessive preparation and the Rival’s Alakazam was a beast that got betrayed by his own Venusaur trying to clear some rain drops.

Now I’m onto the post game with the sevii islands which I have no idea what it includes since Pokemon yellow never had that. I will probably post a rematch elite four team and will definitely swap out a few. I’m sorry Sandslash, I love you but I need more coverage and resilience against match ups they should be able to win :(
