Just brought home a pineapple conure! First day or so it seems like he adjusted pretty well to his cage but I am very new to this so I'm not 100% sure about any behaviors but I've done lots of research it's just hard to feel confident when you don't have an expert analyzing your specific bird. He's 5 months old and we have been keeping in contact with the lady we got him from. When we try to get him to step up he will just start biting the hand pretty hard. He would do it before yesterday and the day before (day we got him) but now is refusing. The lady insists we should just grab him (like a sandwich or something) put him to the chest and stroke his head and then he'll be relaxed. When we met her it seemed like this worked fine for her and he was calm like she said but this advice seems to go against everything everyone else says so we're really confused? She's saying we need to start doing it right away but I'm just really afraid to do that and break his trust. But it did seem to work for her and she was very affectionate with him and has raised him since birth. She also said we need to make sure he gets out of cage time but I'm afraid we won't be able to get him back in and end up chasing him and traumatizing him. Really concerned about this because yesterday he was allowing scritches and stepping up but now won't allow any of it and will just bite.
