I briefly took umbrage at the clueing for 1 across.

A >!robin!< is an avian sign of winter where I am. Or at least associated more with Christmas than spring.

Of course, they're two different species, from two different families. They're not closely related at all.

I'm mostly just laughing at myself here for not thinking about the American bird first 😊
