Male American Goldfinch. My s/o thinks we should ease up a bit on the bird seed...

Hello all! I've posted here a couple of times asking if a certain growth was a spike or root. It's long enough now that I feel confident in saying it's a spike!

Hello! I've had this orchid since 2011. It has been neglected in the past - underwatering and insufficient light. It has been under proper care for the past year at least and has grown a lot of new roots and a large new leaf. I'm assuming it spent most of its time growing back it's root system, because I haven't seen any out of medium growth, including leaves. I deliberately avoided triggering a flower spike so it could grow roots and leaves.

It started growing this shoot a few weeks ago. At this point in fairly convinced it isn't a root, but it also doesn't look like what I'd expect for a spike. Could this be a basal keiki?

Do you have a preference between these different brands? If so, which do you prefer and why?

For context, some people are very loyal to feed brands. Others feed whatever is cheapest. At this point I am not especially loyal to any brand, I just happen to be more familiar with one of them. I'm curious about what other people prefer and why.
