Garden Planning
Hello floral friends!
I am embarking on my first garden journey and wanted your opinions. I am in zone 5b and have a pretty full sun (6+ hours until shaded by a tree as the sun moves) garden that faces southwest. It’s currently a blank slate, so I was thinking of planting some little panicle hydrangeas.
There is a window (starts at 4 ft from the ground) above the garden so we can’t have anything that will get too big. That led me to the Proven Winner little limelight and little lime punch hydrangeas, which I was thinking of staggering in the garden bed for a nice ombré effect as the colours develop. We also wanted hydrangeas that bloom on new wood so we don’t have to worry as much about old wood breaking in the winter.
I was planning on planting them ~4.5 feet from each other, staggered in depth for some texture.
I plan on planting some bulbs and other native perennials, like tulips, echinacea, daffodils, etc., amongst the shrubs.
Please have a look at my mockup (roughly to scale) and let me know what you think! Do I have enough space for all of them? Am I missing any considerations? Anything I should know before I start this journey? Thank you!!
