Hi all! I'm interested in purchasing a used bike from someone on Marketplace. I have to drive 1 hour for it and obviously don't want buyer's regret either, so hoping to get some advice here. The bike is a "2014 Trek Domane 4.0 Endurance – 60 cm Carbon Bike" and is going for $500. This bike will be for my partner who is 6ft 2 and 250lbs. The one thing I'm questioning is the chainring and cassette. I feel like these probably need to be in really good shape to support his riding, but if anyone has any other concerns they would have given this, please let me know. I'm thinking of asking for a price decrease for replacing the chainring, cuz it looks a bit worn to me, but I'm a little unsure how to assess whether this will ride fine. Perhaps I should just ask my partner to shift under load during the test ride.

Here is the original post:

"Selling my 2014 Trek Domane 4.0 Endurance, size 60 cm, with a full carbon frame that’s been meticulously maintained and is in excellent riding condition. I’ve kept up with annual professional service, and it recently had a full tune‑up, including brand‑new tires and a new chain, so it’s ready to hit the road today.

The bike is equipped with a Shimano Tiagra 10‑speed drivetrain and Bontrager wheels/tires for a smooth, reliable ride. Shimano SPD pedals are installed, so it’s ready for clip‑in shoes if you want to ride it as‑is, or you can easily swap to your preferred pedals.
It also features Trek’s built‑in DuoTrap sensor in the frame, which pairs with Garmin and Wahoo bike computers to track speed and cadence without extra mounts or zip ties. It’s a clean setup if you like to log your rides and training."

I asked a few more questions and got these answers:

  1. Why getting rid of it? "I’ve just been riding more and wanted an upgrade to a higher end bike with disc brakes and electronic shifts."
  2. Bike/wheels in good shape? "The wheels and spokes are in great shape. I paid about $500 for a comprehensive tune up about 18 months ago where they switched out the chain, replaced the tires and brake pads, and fine tuned all the gearing.
  3. Accidents? "I’ve never had an accident."
  4. Stored inside? "It’s been stored inside my garage this whole time. Here’s a picture of the family bike wall where it was hung up." He sent a photo!
