Hi all. As the title describes, my mum has broken her back for the past 30 years in the primary school system. She’s currently teaching Year 2 and is beyond over it. It breaks my heart seeing her pour hours of her own personal time into her schoolwork only to mutter “I wish I had a life”. Or to see her take her bratty or trouble students behaviour home with her. Currently she’s dealing with younger grade partners who have completely iced her out and school leadership is not helping, compounding her disdain for teaching even further.

I’m trying to help her look for careers with a much better work-life balance. I’m a bit unsure of where to look though, I’ve been looking at other roles within tertiary education which don’t seem as demanding but am really hoping to get her out of education entirely. I work in a completely different industry that she doesn’t have any interest nor skillset in, so I can’t look within my network or field for her. I’m also worried that as she’s only worked in teaching for the past three decades, most hiring teams won’t even bother with her. Any ex-teachers or educational professionals with advice on a career change for my mum? Thanks
