Could people kindly define what they mean by “surgery”?

I thought that the treatment was liposuction, which I tend to think of as a “procedure”, as opposed to a surgery.

The surgeries I understood might be involved would be things like panniculectomy, when fat aprons are surgically, cut off from stomach stomachs; or if someone were to have the skin flaps on heavy upper arms removed.

I know that liposuction can be painful and has a recovery period, but I tend to think of surgery as things being actually cut off and removed…

Could people more knowledgeable than I (which is probably everybody) explain?
