Good day,
I’m very interested in taking Marine Engineering at NSCC in Canada. I’ve always had a strong interest in the maritime industry, especially at-sea work, but I’m having trouble finding many job postings for marine engineering positions. I’m trying to get a realistic sense of how viable this career path might be over the next 3–4 years, since I likely wouldn’t be fully qualified until around 2028 - 2029.
I know no one can predict the future, but I’d really appreciate insight from people currently working in the Canadian maritime industry. What does the job market look like for marine engineers at sea? Are companies hiring new grads/cadets, or is it difficult to break in?
I’d also be interested to hear from anyone who took Marine Engineering at NSCC, or who knows someone who did. Did the program lead to work? How was the sea time/job placement process?
Thank you.
