Over the past few years as I've inculcated minimalism into every crevice of my life, I've seen that, inherently, the baseline human experience actually requires very little in order to both live a "meaningful" and at the same time content life. Less REALLY is more.
I used to own iPhones, iPads, different kinds of Android devices, and was a devout user of the OnePlus devices.
Today, I use a BigMe Hibreak Pro which comes with ample built in friction. The friction is very intentional and subliminally promulgated the idea of using my phone less and less, to the extent whereby I now tend to forget I even have a phone. Unless, of course, I'm using to read books (KOReader, if you need a great ebook reader app, btw.)
Ever since getting rid of my phone, I also didn't have a need for instagram, tiktok, pinterest, facebook, messager, and a plethora of other apps anymore.
After getting rid of the apps and the devices, I started reading a lot. Learned a lot. "The Fasting Cure," "The Diabetes Code," "The Cancer Code," "Enchiridion" (Epictetus), "Meditations" (Marcus Aurelius), etc. It feels great to be reading actual literature now, rather than Instagram and Facebook rants. I've taken up fasting. Eat once every 48-72 hours, did my longest water fast of 84 hours, I walk 1 hour per day, lift 3 times a week, lost a lot of body fat, my weight dropped from 194 to 163 (23 percent body fat to 9 percent now). I swear, the amount of time we waste on these plague ass phones only becomes obvious once we get rid of them. For the first time I'm in my life, I went from Skinny-Fat to having abs. WTF I actually have abs. I've been skinny fat all my life!
GPS works fine on the phone. Music works fine, although I don't listen to much music nowadays. Phone calls work. Texting works. Signal (I'm in the Navy) works fine, Whatsapp works, Facebook, Tiktok, Instagram, all of them work just fine, but because of the friction, you'll naturally get rid of them or get sick/bored of them. Youtube works fine, Spotify works. It's like a normal android phone, except noticeably slower, has a book like feel to it, is black and white, and makes you bored of your phone, pretty much.
Here is a list of apps I currently only use, nothing else:
CoMaps (Offline GPS.)
VoIP app (I cancelled my phone service. Now I only pay about 3 dollars or less per month, because I noticed I rarely talk on the phone unless it's Signal.)
KOReader (for reading books)
Lifting app (gym)
Fasting App (FastTrack from F-Droid)
Signal app.
No browser on my phone. No Music app. Sometimes if I want to listen to music, I get the Youtube frontend app called NewPipe. Most times I don't need that dopamine.
My baseline for Dopamine has returned. I can actually READ for more than 1 hour straight. The previous me would get bored after reading ONE or two pages of anything...
Got rid of Google Play Store and Google Tracking garbage off the phone too.
EDIT: I forgot to mention one important thing. I don't watch porn anymore. Not because I "don't" want to. But because watching a video on this thing is a nightmare, which is awesome and great. So yeah, it'll help you get rid of porn too lol
That's pretty much it.
