Valentina Dental Update. Avoid GoVets Manchester.

Hi guys,
I’m back with an update after the most terrifying week of my life.

So, Valentina had her first dental Thursday with 4 extractions. I was hesitant about this but thought it was in her best interest as I’m aware dental infections can spread to the rest of the body. And this is the last thing I would ever want.

I drop her off on Thursday. They ran preop exams, and assured me she was in excellent health. They performed the procedure and I collected her at 4pm. When I brought her home, I noticed she had a very strange rapid breathing spell. She was also tired but still eating. I administered pain meds in her food.

I videoed the rapid breathing spells and called my vets straight away, showing them the videos and explaining the issues. They informed me this was normal and nothing to worry about. I did some online research and saw that sometimes the breathing can be a side effect of anasthesia or pain meds. I was still super worried, but trusted the vets.

The next day (Friday) she stopped eating in the afternoon and became increasingly lethargic. Spells of rapid breathing continued. She also developed a cough. I was terrified, I took her to the ER where they did an emergency triage check but assured me nothing was wrong. They told me she just has some slight throat irritation from the tubing but tried to tell me her breathing etc was fine. So I took her home relieved, and we both fell asleep.

The next morning, Valentina woke me up to throw up. She was still refusing food and water, and was very very lethargic. I was in tears crying. She was obviously in pain. I waited an hour for my vets to open and took her straight there.

I explained she hasn’t ate or drank in 24h. All they did was give her a morphine injection and send me on my way with a pack of antibiotics. I said how can I give her these if she isn’t eating. They said there’s a chance she has aspiration pneumonia but nothing severe.

When I got her home, she was super high and weird from the morphine. Still not eating and became increasingly lethargic. I rushed her back to the ER straight away.

They admitted my baby for 2 nights on drips and fluids. Thankfully, all her vitals and blood work came back amazing. She just had some slight aspiration from the procedure (but not pneomia) and was just in pain, tired, dehydrated. So a combination of all these things is way too much for a 1.6kg chi.

My heart was broken. But thankfully, after the support she received, my baby is back at home with me back to her chirpy self. Eating and playing and resting.

She still has a cough and abit of a sneeze but the tests suggest this is just some slight irritation which should settle. I am praying that’s all this is, and that the dental didn’t cause anything more serious.

Guys, please be so careful. And please avoid govets manchester. They are horrible. They ignored all my concerns and have not even checked on Valentina to see how she is doing. They are incompetent and negligent.

I hope my baby continues to make a full recovery. Please send her your love on this journey 🩷

Poor baby recovering from dental- any recovery advice is appreciated

Hi guys,

Valentina finally had her dental yesterday and it’s been the worst 24h I have ever experienced. I believe she had an adverse reaction to her pain meds yesterday as her breathing got super heavy and laboured, I was honestly terrified so I have given her much less today. She had 4 extractions. She seems better and is eating but is so sleepy and sad. I wish she wasn’t in any pain. I am scared for any adverse side effects from the procedure and praying she makes a good recovery and is back to her normal self soon.

Please can anyone share their dental recovery stories, anything to watch out for and any tips and tricks. I would appreciate it so much.

Thank you 🩷

Hi guys,

My 2 year old girl Valentina went to the vets today as I noticed some plaque and wanted to have it looked at. Turns out one of her back molars is basically falling out and super loose. The other tooth behind it has plaque. No signs of infection, just some inflammation.

She has never been put under anaesthetic before and I’m TERRIFIED, I cannot stop crying as she is under 2kg and the risk is there. I don’t know what I’d do if anything happened I just wouldn’t want to live without her.

The vet said the other option is to let it fall out naturally and get her dental care. But I’m scared to let it get infected or it spread to the rest of her body etc.

Does anybody have any experience with this situation with such a small chihuahua. Any advice is appreciated as I am so upset and petrified that this is happening. I have read some horror stories and I wouldn’t be able to live or ever forgive myself if something was to happen.
