Proud of this build from frame up sourcing parts for cheap. My son now has the coolest bike on the street.

Slowly working him up to drop bars….

Hello all

I’ve been learning to build bikes over the last couple of years and wondered if there’s any stories (good and bad) or lessons learned that anyone may wish to share.

After a lot of tinkering this is my first successful attempt at building a bike on a semi small budget (£250 ish).

It’s a bit of a Frankenbike but it seems to look the part and works ok on first test. It’s got the following:

Planet X Aluminium Frame Large (58cm- ) Like New but used

Wheels - Maddux 700c Thru Axle - like new but used

700xx x 35mm gravel tyres - new

Inner tubes - new

Fork - Full Carbon Gravel Fork (up to 45mm clearance) - New

Headset - New

Stem / Bars - Used

Bar tape - New

Bottom Bracket - New

Seat Post - New

San Marco Seat - Used

Tektro disc brakes - used

Brake inner and outers - new

Disc rotors and pads - New

Shimano Sora 9 speed shifters - Used

Gear cable inner and outers - New

Micro shift 9 speed 11-46t cassette - new

Chain - new

Suntour M9 clutch derailleur - new

Shimano spd pedals - used

Off brand 38t Chainring - new

Off brand cranks - new

Spacers / bottle cages / general bolts etc - new

I’ve used cheaper parts where possible but wondered what people thought and any tips to improve are most welcome!
