Have you seen the Math Matters Act, HB1030? This bill has passed both the state house and senate and is heading to the governor’s desk!This bill automatically places students who score proficient or distinguished on the milestone in 7th grade into enhanced algebra in 8th (which is two years of math at once - 8th and 9th grade) and those who score proficient or distinguished on the 8th grade milestone into advanced classes for 9-12. This will put countless kids in above their heads and we all know as educators that using one data point to place students is a terrible idea. I’ll be calling the governor’s office to ask that he veto this bill.
