Im trying to convert this commuter bike that I have had for the past year into an e-bike as I am moving somewhere up a long hill from my campus. No more than 2 or 3 miles each way with about a mile being up/ down hill. (UK and I want it to be within the 25km/h legal limit with no potentially maybe a tiny weeny bit extra if necessary ) ideally with a bottle battery as my range is quite short so I can just put it in my bag and not worry about my bike looking *im and ebike please angle grind my lock* and an easily removeable battery solution as I need to charge the battery away from the bike.
A student bus pass for one year where I am is £485 pounds so I would like it to be cheaper than that if possible!
I’m not very aware of bike repairs but have replaced the brake, handlebars, changed the wheels and seat but am yet to do anything to do with gearing or anything like that
A few questions that I haven’t been able to find a solid answer on.
- is it viable to convert a single speed to an ebike?
- what parts do I need to measure of my bike to check that everything will fit especially motor wise
- What motor would work best? Heard mid drive is best but maybe more expensive. I’m happy with whatever will deliver me the best experience in my price range
I really want to spend this summer doing stuff like through routing cables and tidying everything so it’s quite stealthy too! My bike is very mismatch already so don’t worry about offering slightly weird solutions!
