I’m an indie developer from Italy and I’d like to share Bookito with you — a clean and privacy-friendly alternative for tracking your reading.

I originally started working on it back in 2020 because I was frustrated with existing book apps becoming cluttered with ads, bloated interfaces and engagement tricks. I wanted something simpler, faster and more focused on the actual reading experience.

Some features currently available:

• Track books via ISBN scanner, title search or manual entry
• Reading stats and yearly/monthly graphs
• AI-powered book recommendations based on your ratings (no personal information is sent to the AI — only book title, author and your rating)
• Notes, highlights and reading progress
• Community explore section to discover what others are reading
• Completely ad-free, except for a short optional ad before AI-powered features to help cover API costs

Privacy was also a big priority for me:

• All user data is encrypted
• You can use the app completely anonymously without creating an account
• Servers are hosted on Milan-based infrastructure inside the EU
• Data handling follows EU privacy regulations

So far the app has reached around 23k downloads and 2.6k registered users, which honestly surprised me a lot considering it’s still a side project built independently.

I’d genuinely love feedback from other builders and readers about the UX, features or overall direction of the app.

Vorrei condividere con voi Bookito, un'app che ho sviluppato per tracciare facilmente le proprie letture.

L'idea è nata dalla necessità di avere un'interfaccia pulita, moderna e totalmente priva di pubblicità (cosa che spesso manca nelle app simili).

Al momento ho raggiunto un bel traguardo: oltre 23.000 download e circa 2.600 utenti registrati.

Le funzionalità principali:

• Registrazione dei libri in modo semplice: aggiungi libri tramite codice a barre, ricerca per titolo o inserendo manualmente dettagli e copertina.
• Statistiche Avanzate: Grafici annuali, mensili e storici per monitorare le abitudini di lettura.
• AI Recommendation: Un assistente integrato che suggerisce il prossimo libro in base a quelli che avete amato.
• Scanner ISBN: Aggiunta rapida dei libri tramite fotocamera.
• Esplora: Una sezione per vedere cosa stanno leggendo gli altri utenti della community.
• Note & Progressi: Tracciamento pagine, note personali e rating.

Dal punto di vista economico, al momento non ho modalità di guadagno, se non grazie ad alcuni sostenitori che continuano a inviare un “caffè virtuale”. In futuro, vorrei valutare l’inserimento di libri sponsorizzati nella sezione Esplora. Mi piacerebbe avere anche il vostro parere su come approcciarmi a questo aspetto senza introdurre pubblicità fastidiosa.
