I don't know if I can live at home anymore - what do I do?
Hi,
I (22F) have been living at home for 6 months since moving back from uni, and it has been a rollercoaster. I live with my parents, brother (30M) and share a room with my sister (10F). We do not have a big house, so things get cluttered easily, and it's easy to feel a bit caged in. Most of my things is kept in storage because there is no space to put all of my stuff in the room.
When I first moved back, I did not have a job, so I mostly kept the house tidy, babysat, applied to jobs, cooked dinner and worked out. My brother also does not have a job and spends a lot of time in his room, so he's out of the way. I liked this, but it became a bit infuriating because I was making no money and also felt very lazy.
A month after the move, I decided to go back to working in the bar I had worked in throughout university. It was very late hours, so I would sleep all day and work all night. This was 3-4 days a week, but still had to balance applying for 9-5's and babysitting. Also, a side note, my brother had moved out during this time temporarily, so I had my own room, which made it easier to come back so late and not wake up my sister.
3 months after doing that consistently, I finally found a job (!) and started working my 9-5, and this is where the problems started. The house became messy, my brother came back and took on all the responsibility (which he does not like), and I was back in the room with my sister.
It's the worst-case scenario for me, I wear the same thing to work (because my clothes are in storage), don't have any space for myself and have to keep up with responsibilities after I come back from work. During uni, I was so used to having my own space and time, and now I don't have any of that, and I share a room with a messy 10 yo.
I've been thinking about ways to go about it as this living situation has taken a toll on my mental health, I can't sleep properly, I'm not staying healthy anymore, and I dread coming back home.
I don't want to rent because that's too expensive, and I think it would be a waste of money I can save to put down a deposit. I'm only 22 and think I can scrape money to put down a deposit, but it's a big commitment.
Any advice would be appreciated!
