Another +1 for deleting your social medias
I became sick and tired of the drain social media has and how it portrays me as a person despite how much I've changed. I just felt no need for the public or even my old and new connections to have that much insight into my life. Instagram was relatively easy with Redact, which was great. Facebook was an absolute monster though, with content dating back a couple of decades. It was honestly alarming to realize how much information, patterns, and data they had on me. I let Redact run for two days and eventually it started to time out. Even within the platform itself, deleting older data was a struggle. This ultimately led me to just delete both accounts entirely.
I have to say...... I didn't even realize the weight I was carrying by having my present life tethered to everything from my past. I'm not even ashamed of any of it, but simply lugging around all those connections, updates, and memories DOES take a toll on you. I cannot overstate how much lighter I feel now that I'm simply focused on the present. I still have all my old photos and physical trinkets, which is all I need to reminisce on my memories. No need for everybody else to have that access too.
Wanted to make this post to help reinforce this movement. If you came across this post searching for what it's actually like to wipe your social media accounts.... JUST DO IT.
