I wanted to bring up an issue that many apartment residents in India are facing — the 18% GST on society maintenance charges.

For many middle-class families, maintenance itself is already a significant monthly expense. Adding 18% GST on top of that increases the burden further.

From what I understand, GST is applicable when maintenance exceeds ₹7,500 per month per flat, but in many cities, this limit is easily crossed.

My questions:

• Do you think this GST rate is justified?
• Is there any way societies/residents can reduce or manage this legally?
• How are others dealing with this in their apartments?
