Please share the joy with me in the fact, that my grandfather's watch is alive again!
After 14-15 years of sitting in the original box, all it needed was a new battery. I grew interest in watches the past few months, and decided to try to change the battery/fix it if it does not work. It worked.
It is a radio controlled Tropby watch from Germany, probably late 90's early 2000's that my grandpa received as a gift from relatives from western germany. He was well into his retirement at that point, so it got worn a few days max, if even that.
It is really slim and light, I suspected titanium but the clasp on the bracelet said stainless steel. It is the lightest watch I have ever laid my hands on.
I had a bit of a fight with settings tho, because it only has 2 buttons, a main one where the crown is usually, and the small one between 9-10 on the side. I managed to position the hands to 12:00 in some type of settings mode, and it was bang on... I mean almost, it was exactly an hour late. So I played with it some more, and I think I managed to set some timezone thing up. I don't even know how. I don't think I could do this again, even if I tried.
I did not even realize how important this thing was for me, until I could look down onto it on my hands while its working. I didn't even know we had it, my father kept it in his bin of electronics since grandpa is gone, tossed it my way with kind of a doubt, that it would work.
If any of you happen to know anything about this thing, like origin, or production date window, or even settings (yay) please let me know.
If not, just take your share in my exitement about this unique (to me) piece, and the stories it can tell. I like watches, but I love a good story.
