BSchool Story

So, I am currently a first-year MBA student at a college that many people would categorize as Tier 1 or Tier 1.5. I wanted to share something personal and honestly quite disheartening about my experience so far.

I completed my graduation a few years ago, worked for around 2–3 years, and then decided to pursue an MBA. However, placements have been mentally exhausting for me. Somehow because of nervousness or lack of confidence during interviews, I ended up getting rejected by around 5–6 companies that visited the campus.

Eventually, our placement cell brought in three so-called “companies.” One appeared to be a call center role, another seemed like a questionable digital marketing setup, and the third was a reputed automobile brand but the role involved standing in malls collecting OTPs from customers for sales leads. What shocked me more was that students getting placed into these roles were not underqualified people.

At one point, when only a few students were left unplaced, the Vice President of the placement cell and had supposedly held prestigious positions made remarks that felt humiliating that was “Don’t give interviews like losers.”

And honestly, that stayed with me.

What exactly defines a “loser”? If a college proudly advertises high average percentiles, a selective batch size, and students coming from strong academic backgrounds, then how can struggling during placements suddenly make someone worthless? Is a person’s dignity tied only to the number of offers they hold?
