I’ve been accepted into a Structural Engineering master’s program in Denmark, with a focus on offshore wind energy structures. The topic aligns well with my bachelor’s, which was also centered on offshore wind.

That said, my professional experience so far has been quite different – I’ve worked on designing residential houses and multi-story RC and CLT projects. So my current background doesn’t directly match the roles I’d be targeting after the master’s.

For those working in offshore wind or related fields:

  • How do you feel about your work in general – rewarding, stressful, monotonous?
  • How much of your time do you spend on site vs. in the office?
  • How do salaries compare to the rest of the structural engineering industry?
  • Is the job market healthy enough for newcomers with a relevant master’s but no direct offshore experience?
  • Do you see the industry continuing to grow in the coming years?

Also happy to hear any other thoughts, advice, or things you wish you’d known before entering the field.

Thanks in advance!
