I'd be dumb to even start to bid this project right?

Got a rec from an acquaintance to install a gate operator. I used to work for a fencing company so it's something I'm technically capable of and comfortable with (I did residential installs for a couple years).

I show up yesterday after finally getting the address and it turns out it's a small apt complex (8 unit) and two gates. When I started mentioning I could get my GC buddy to act as oversight/liability backing (RMO as I think understand the term to mean) to pull permits, EDIT: THE BUILDING OWNER said he'd prefer not to pull permits.

All my alarm bells go off internally. I say urge that its a good idea for permitting so he's not held liable in case of any accidents and he just stated "that would rest with you the installer to make it right". When I press the permits again he says "I don't think you're understanding what I'm saying" over and over. "What would having the permits change, if you're going to install them correctly right?"

MAJOR walk away right?

It felt like he was trying to do some weird mind-game shit where I'm somehow the one that doesn't know what they're talking about because he owns an apt complex and we're about the same age.

I was starting to get heated and just said I'd be in touch.

Sanity Check anyone?
