I was looking forward to the new Zephyrus Duo laptop as my Zenbook Pro Duo went kaput. The big dual screens and at least 64GB RAM CPU w/ the 5090 GPU were exactly what I was looking for as an upgrade. Alas, Asus disappointed me and decided not to release the 64Gb version in the states.

I went to MicroCenter to attempt repairs on my Zenbook to no avail (not paying $1500 for a new motherboard); but I decided to look around and was pretty impressed by the Asus Zenbook Duo’s price and features. I was REALLY impressed by the Strix 18, but I think the size might be overkill for my workspace and even at a discount quite pricey. The tech in the MC repair department told me that the Asus Duo’s lower screens often get fried and require full replacement, but I’m wondering about user experience out in the world especially if I’m running an eGPU instead of whatever’s internal - I have a 4060ti that’s been very handy. I’m considering applying for the MicroCenter card to get either the Asus Duo w/ warranty or the Strix 18.

Edit: I’m guessing prices just hit a spike. I was at MC 2 weeks ago and the duo was on sale for $1399, I believe, this week back up to $1899.

I’m kind of feeling ripped off here. I loved the Creative Cloud app for mobile, especially the ability to use any available Adobe font for my videos/art on my iPad and get a similar quality to my laptop. Now my laptop is kaput and I can’t work on it anymore until I get a major boon. Has anybody found a workaround to install fonts and get something similar to Creative Cloud accessibility?

“Taylor Family Portrait.” I’m thinning out my little collection of Taylor Guitars, so I thought I’d share a picture of the 3 of them together before I miss the chance. It looks like the 816ce Builder’s Edition (left) and the 352ce(right) got together and had a baby, the very rare 656ce prototype which shares combined characteristics of the two. For me it’s a dream 12 string guitar that has all the tonal characteristic I love (Maple/Spruce) w/ enhanced short scale playability and a gorgeous stereo spread in the treble register via the soundport cutaway. I only wish the 656ce had the Lutz spruce top (bigger attack/bass boom) instead of Adirondack, but I plan on some mods like new Gotoh tuners down the line that might expand the tonal capabilities. I already have offers on both the 6 string & my older 12 string, so looks like the 656ce will be continuing w/ me for an extended solo journey.
