
CURSES on Panera Breads Steakhouse Ranch salad!
I've been battling insulin resistance while also doing Keto for a while. My doc has given me until August to get my A1C down. I've been doing SOOOO good keeping my blood sugar (using a CGM) down to semi-healthy levels, and it usually rides around 110, which for me is pretty good.
But today, I was out on my daughters field trip doing a lot of walking, and my glucose was riding a little higher than usual at around 120 ish. I had a healthy low carb breakfast (3 net carbs) with good fat and proteins.
BUT, on the way home our kiddo asked for Panera Bread. I figured I would give their Steakhouse Ranch salad a try and leave out the cherry tomatoes and fried onions. Everything else seemed keto friendly. Drank a Diet Pepsi as a treat since it never spikes my glucose. My preprandial blood glucose was a decent 117.
Then I noticed my blood sugar spiking waaaay outside of my keto normal. Typically my meals only spike my glucose about 20-30 points, and I'm always below 140 glucose even after meals. But this......

I went from 117 to 211 after eating that salad!! Thankfully it went back down fairly quickly and is now steady at 104-107 ish.
Apparently Panera likes to put sugars in their salad dressings, even ranch which typically has little to no sugars from just about every other restaurant.
Just be careful out there folks. Sometimes these places sneak sugars into things you'd least expect.
