Edit: I have granular 59 lbs of dichlor as well as 50 lbs of tricolor tabs. Thinking about slowly using the dichlor with liquid in between until the dichlor runs out, tabs and liquid in summer, and liquid only in winter.

I have been getting dialed in with my pool care after buying a house in the fall. Previous owner did not maintain the pool very well, even with a weekly pool service. The numbers were off the chart so I started with a drain and fill about a month ago. The service manager that performed the drain and fill suggested I use dichlor for chlorine maintenance, as did a manager of a pool supply store. So, I bought a 50 lb bucket without thinking much of it, seemed a convenient way to manage my chlorine as opposed to hauling liquid chlorine in regularly.

After some research, it would seem this was a poor choice due to how quickly it increases CYA. Anybody in the Phoenix area use dichlor regularly? I’d there even a benefit to dichlor if your CYA is where it needs to be? Kind of annoyed I bought it and thinking about reselling it (at a loss if I have to) just to get rid of it. Seems like liquid/tabs in the summer and liquid only in the winter is a better way to manage it. I realize tabs will slowly add CYA but I plan to drain/fill every 3 years.

TIA
