First (janky) attempt at XRF

I was bored and realised my radiacode 110 isn’t doing anything so I slapped together this monstrosity of unreliability.

I wanted to see if I could see even the slightest amount of X-ray fluorescence specifically from tin (solder which is 40% tin in my case) so I very quickly placed as much tin around the radiacode crystal and placed the whole thing on a big piece of uraninite (giving roughly 300usv/h and 16kcps on contact). As you can see on the second picture there is a slight increase around the expected fluorescence peak and it is about 600 counts above the nearest channel which is at a higher energy.

I have no idea if this is an actual result or just luck but i will attempt to replicate this with a much more thought through setup and shielding between the uraninite and the detector because not it sees both the X-rays and the gammas fro the uraninite. I don’t expect good results as the radiacode is not even close to precise enough to do this but it is still interesting especially if I can replicate this for other elements.
