Revealed religions: Ecological crisis and prophecies in revealed religions
Within the last decade, there is has been a marked change in the pace - and severity - of ecological shifts. Recently, the dire state of rivers in the Levant region has triggered people to compare the situation to Biblical prophecies, as highlighted in the article below in relation to the collapse in the flow of the Euphrates, especially it's section within Iraq.
>Relevent article here: Dying river in the 'cradle of civilization' sparks fears of prophecy being real - The Euphrates River, the longest river in Western Asia, has seen a dramatic fall in water levels in recent years, leaving some believers fearful the decline could signal the fulfillment of a Biblical end-of-times prophecy from Revelation 16:12.
I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of our community on this, especially from the perspectives of those who follow revealed religions with a prophetic tradition.
* Does your tradition has any prophetic texts relating to these sorts of events?
* Do you think they are actually meaningful? Do you think they are actual prophecies or just people trying to shoehorn events and ancient texts together?
* How do you interpret current ecological shifts in relation to them?
* What significance, if any, do you attribute to them?
* Does a prophetic view of them change your general sentiments or feelings about the events?
