Hello everyone,

I served in the US Navy from 2017-2022, where I held a secret clearance throughout my service. When I got out in 2022, I went to college on my GI Bill and did not work for around 3 years. After I graduated, I started working a regular civilian IT job that did not require clearance. Recently, I applied to a higher paying role that said they were looking for someone capable of obtaining/maintaining a secret clearance.

From my understanding, my clearance expired and went inactive right after my EAOS, but stays current for 2 years, so I thought I would be starting the clearance process from scratch. However at my interview today, they told me they would not be sponsoring a clearance, but looked me up in DISS and told me I was good to go and would just need to do another SF-86. Not that I’m upset about this, but can someone explain how I would not need to start the entire process from scratch and need to be sponsored? Clearly my understanding of this process is lacking, and I desperately need some clarification lol. Thank you in advance.
