Hey everyone, I’m seriously wondering if I should buy an MX-5 NA, and I’d love some honest opinions from people who have been in a similar situation.

A big concern for me is height: I’m 1.90m (6'3"), so before buying anything I’ll probably try to find an NA at a local meet and ask the owner if I can at least sit in it and see how I fit.

For context, I previously owned a heavily modified Grande Punto Abarth making around 280hp, and now I drive a BMW 220i (F22) making around 320hp. The BMW made me fall in love with RWD, and it’s seriously fast.

But here’s the strange part: talking over a beer with a friend who owned similar cars, we both realized that smaller, rawer cars like the Abarth somehow gave us more emotions and fun than the BMW does. The BMW is objectively better and much faster, but it still leaves a bit of a bittersweet feeling.

All of my cars have always been used as daily drivers, and the Miata would be the same. Maybe later I’d pair it with a sport bike as a second toy.

I’m mainly interested in the 1.8 version, as it seems like the better all-round choice for what I’m looking for.

So my question is: has anyone here gone from a 300+ hp RWD car to a Mazda MX-5 NA? Any regrets? Or do you wish you had done it sooner?
