Refusing a dog harboring Lone Star Ticks
For the Petco Groomers out there or anyone with relevant knowledge: My husband works as a groomer and found his first in-person instance of Lone Star tick today and was advised he should look over himself when he got home. We are both extremely paranoid about contracting alpha gal, the “allergic to red meat forever” disease that I’m sure everyone is hearing about.
My question is, is it standard practice to come into contact with these guys? Is there a point where you would refuse a dog on the basis that bathing them (I know there’s a Flea and Tick shampoo that would be used here) would expose you to such a permanent consequence should you get bit by one? Is the shampoo enough to guarantee the ticks die during the bath/not bite you in the process?
Lastly, assuming I’m not being an overly paranoid douche, is it within his grounds to not bathe a dog that is infested or is there a company policy addressing this?
