Basque dialects be like
Modern Basque <j> has a rather wide range of dialectal variations :
- [j] in traditional coastal Lapurdian, half of High-Navarrese and some varieties of Biscayan
- [ɟ] in most Lapurdian and Low-Navarrese
- [ʒ] in Souletin
- [dʒ] in western Biscayan
- [ʃ] in southern High-Navarrese, and historically in Salazarese and Roncalese
- [x] in Guipuscoan, eastern Biscayan, and western High-Navarrese
But etymologically, they all come from Proto-Basque *e / #_V , through /ʝ/
