[Self Promotion] Built an app to help people connect before cruises — looking for feedback

Hey, I’ve been working on a small app called Seaya and wanted to share it here to get some honest feedback.

The idea came from a personal experience. I did a cruise solo and found it surprisingly hard to meet people, especially before the trip even started. Most options were either inactive groups or just hoping things would happen naturally once on board.

So I built something simple where you can see who’s going on the same cruise and start talking before you get there.

It’s still early, and I’m trying to figure out if this is actually useful or if I’m solving a problem that isn’t that big.

Would really appreciate if anyone could take a look and share thoughts—especially first impressions and anything that feels confusing or unnecessary.

Building a niche social app for cruise travellers taught me something unexpected

I’ve been working on a social app focused on helping people meet others on the same cruise.

One thing that surprised me:

Even in an environment designed to be social (shared dining, activities, excursions), most people still don’t end up meeting new people.

From what I’ve seen:

  • People stick to their existing group
  • There’s hesitation to start conversations with strangers
  • Even solo travelers often wait for something “natural” to happen

It made me realize the problem isn’t a lack of opportunities — it’s the friction of actually initiating connection.

Curious if others building social or niche apps have seen a similar gap between intent (“I want to meet people”) and action (actually reaching out), and how you approached it.

Looking for honest, critical feedback (not just “nice app”)

Hey, I’m testing a social app focused on helping people meet others while traveling (especially cruises).

Not looking for quick reviews—I’m specifically looking for people willing to:

  • Actually use it for a bit
  • Point out what’s confusing, awkward, or unnecessary
  • Be brutally honest

If that’s not your style, no worries

Happy to return detailed feedback on your app as well. App link:- https://apps.apple.com/us/app/seaya/id6751585524

Would you use an app to meet people on the same cruise?

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on something in the cruise/travel space and wanted to get some perspectives.

I noticed that a lot of people go on cruises solo or want to meet others, but don’t really have a clear way to connect before or during the trip.

The idea is pretty simple:

  • See who’s on your same cruise
  • Connect before boarding or while onboard
  • Make meeting people feel more natural (instead of awkward cold approaches)

I’m curious what people here think:

  • Is this something you’d actually use?
  • Or do people prefer just meeting naturally onboard?
  • What would make something like this worth using?

Interested to hear real opinions from people who’ve cruised.
