My Brother in Law has episodes of involuntary sleep only while driving.
Along with the title, here's some further context: my BiL was a chopper gunner while in the army. After he was discharged, he started having episodes of involuntary sleep that would only occur while driving. My mom thinks he's lying or something because "he can sit there for hours playing video games where he's driving." Personally, I think he can honestly be a jerk without good reason most of the time and isn't completely honest, so there is a part of me that at least acknowledges the possibility that something isn't adding up. At the same time, I feel like my mom's reasoning is at least a bit flimsy and doesn't acknowledge the complexity of the human brain/mind. (It doesn't help that my mom has serious MH issues that she refuses to address properly.) So, I can see it being possible that he's faking, but I'm leaning towards him telling the truth.
Has anyone else ever heard of this? I'm trying to do some searching around to see if narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnia, or other sleep disorders involving involuntary sleep episodes can have specific triggers. So far, all I know that supports the idea is that narcolepsy can be tied to specific emotions.
Anybody else have any input?
