So my senior boy is almost 15 now. He got diabetes a few years back but we managed his blood sugar so it’s monitored every day, but he gradually lost his eyesight unfortunately.

Almost a year ago he was diagnosed again with doggie dementia and he started sundowning. In the start it was only during the night, but 2 months ago he started whining and pacing almost the whole day. Basically he whines until he falls a sleep or goes for a walk ( I walk him 3 times a day for short walks, guess he just got used to it and always pushes to go out).

Even if i pet him or hold him, he still whines continously. I’m scared that im letting his quality of life go down. The vet says physically he’s holding good for a 15 year old dog. But he has a neurological problem which we cant look into because he’s too old for anesthesia. Sometimes he gets spooked out of nothing and like flinches at shadows. He stopped barking almost 2 years ago, i can’t even remember what it sounds like.

I am wondering if maybe it’s time to let go.
He used to be such a playful dog, we would walk for miles and miles until i basically got tired haha.

Im even tearing up while writing this so if you have any suggestions or maybe if you went through a similar experience with your furry friends, please share
